More Coal Ash Hearings Added and Comment Deadline Extended

Citizens concerned about protecting coal ash recycling now have more opportunities to make their voices heard.  The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has added public hearings in two more cities – Pittsburgh and Louisville – and has extended the official public comment period on proposed coal ash disposal rules until November 19, 2010.

There are now seven public hearings scheduled, with the first two occurring next week in Washington, DC, and Denver.  Citizens for Recycling First will attend all of the hearings to testify and share information with others about why recycling should be a preferred alternative to disposal.

If you would like to volunteer to help Citizens for Recycling First at one or more of the hearings, please send a message to info@recyclingfirst.org.  A complete list of hearing dates and locations is included below.

If you would like to register to speak at one of the hearings, you can do so on EPA’s web site at http://www.epa.gov/epawaste/nonhaz/industrial/special/fossil/ccr-rule/ccr-form.htm. Speakers are allowed three minutes each and are also allowed to submit longer written statements if they desire. Registration is not required, but will help the hearings run more smoothly.

Each hearing will run from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.  The dates and locations of the hearings are as follows:
